Battle of the networs part I: Eat Bulaga vs. Wowowee

Let's start with the program platform:

On Eat Bulaga: A true definition of variety show. First, they have games, a lot of it. Second, they have presentations which are done by guest artists or in-house talents like their hosts. Third, they have Bulagaan. And a lot more... meaning, they really place a lot of "variation" in your afternoon. A halo-halo kumabaga, and since it's a halo-halo...its kumpleto rekados show.

On Wowowee: I am an ex-OFW, so I have watched Wowowee with my mom consistently and whenever I watch it only one thing comes to mind --- "prayer meeting". Platform is the same as a prayer meeting (if you've attended one). They start the show with a very lively song, a medley of Willie's album which I think is a genius flavor of the show. Much like the joyful opening song of church. They have sharing of experiences inside their every game. Again, similar to the church. They have presentations, games and mini-games. But a variety show? not so much.

Let's talk about bulk of audience and probable "bankability":

On EB: They rule the Philippine audience or maybe catch let's say a 60% of the audience. (Just my estimated figure) However, here's the deal. A bulk of that percentage comes from buses which I believe cannot get a decent coverage of other channel so being able to choose which channel to watch is not an option. But they really have a lot of audience appeal. Vic Sotto's (bossing's) appeal is remarkable and he alone can lure so many fans out there just to get a glimpse of a new haircut, a nice polo and a very charming smile.

ON W: Imagine how many OFWs are out there, that's exactly how many hearts Wowowee has captured. Sales? we don't have to debate on that cause it's quite obvious how supportive international viewers can be. Locally, they are thriving on the ratings but internationally they rule it --- hands down. I've seen it and believe me it's plain crazy --- good craze at least.

HOSTS, comedy, convincing powers and effectivity:

On EB: TVJ - no questions asked....they are institutions on that matter already.
Allan K - can really pull it off, he's a stage-comedian anyway
Julia - She's good, she's unique...but no so much of appeal to make you watch the show
Diana - She has the appeal. Well, I know people who watches the show just to see her...really! honest!
Pauleen - uhmmm... she has a pretty face but not so much of that x-factor you'd like to see
Pia - she's good at hosting, got a great body but sometimes when interviewing real people, she lacks the sincerity...It's just like she's asking because she has to and not because she's really interested. (sorry)
Jimmy Santos - He is raw. Seeing him is comfortable and funny and makes you feel that THIS IS EAT BULAGA. I like him.
Ruby - She's good. It's just that I've seen the jokes on her about her weight and it's too passe already. Parang we are over that so you don't really have to pull that joke, try another one. But she's good at hosting.

Jose - he's funny and good. A nice match for Bossing

Wally - he needs to formulate some more "fun" cause sometimes its too repetitive and boring to watch

Sex bomb - they are really good dancers. I saw kitty girls doing what they do, and it's not a pleasant sight.

EB Babes - uhmmm, more practice?

Convincing powers? Not so. If only TVJ will do it sure, but if not, we need to cute the pie into parts then.

Comedy? Again, TVJ can do it, so can Allan K and Jimmy, others...sometimes they have to

On W: Willy - he's overly dramatic at times, and sometimes so "artista" on his speeches but somehow those cut the deal. And more than that, he really is funny and watching hm makes you think that he really is enjoying the show. I think its the wacky side of him that appears really genuine on screen that makes people love him.

Pokwang - Again like Allan K. She has it!

RR - A pretty face, and easy to watch

Valerie - her smile is contagious, but I don't like the modulation of her voice. But she's charming so she'll pass

Mariel - pretty, but the too sweet image, the ha-ha-ha laugh and the oa effect is not so cute too look at (sorry)

dancers - luningning is good and entertaining, milagring craves too much of exposure, but all in all they are trained fairly well

Convincing power? High.
comedy? High.

I think it's all thanks to Willie

Overall?

I think I'll choose Wowowee simply because it touches a bigger demographics. Though it's games are not as good as EBs, how they play the game keeps you hooked. The interviews, they are authentic and original.

To ABS-CBN and Wowowee ---- You win this round! Kudos!
